This beach-themed activity focuses on teaching essential vocabulary like bucket, shovel, and sandcastle through color-based, hands-on activities. By combining vocabulary with colors and interactive tasks, young English Language Learners can build language skills in a fun and meaningful way.

Beach Unit Vocabulary with Flashcards

Use the 3 flashcards to review the words used: sandcastle, shovel and bucket. Ask questions: What is this?

Students: It’s a sandcastle.

I added a beach worksheet to these basic words just in case it is needed.

Independent Matching Activity with colors

Encourage Independent Learning, when Children can work alone matching the sandcastle with the color mat.

Beach Items Interactive File Folder Game

Beach Objects Sort by color Activity

Encourage children to classify the beach objects cards by attributes by color, enhancing critical thinking and early math skills. Handling and placing cards in categories can help strengthen hand-eye coordination and finger control.

The matching mat can be used for much more than a simple matching activity! After students have practiced matching the pictures to the color words, teachers can cut apart the individual cards and transform them into a new sorting game. Place the color word cards on the table and invite students to sort the beach-themed picture cards into the correct color groups. As they work, encourage them to say the item and its color aloud, such as "Blue bucket" or "Pink shovel." This easy extension gives the matching mat a second life while reinforcing color vocabulary, beach vocabulary, reading, speaking, and classification skills. It is a low-prep activity that is perfect for literacy centers, small groups, early finishers, and independent ESL and EFL practice.

Each page of this printable book focuses on a single color, helping students master basic color words through repetition and visual cues.  The students learn to recognize, read, and associate the word with the color in context.

The repetitive sentence structure (“The bucket is ___.”) helps young learners build reading fluency and confidence. Introduces sight words (like "the", "is") which are foundational for early literacy.

 Use these for various interactive activities. Here is one in which students will match the school objects to the ones the jellyfish have.

Teacher: pencil! Find the jellyfish with a pencil.

Student: The purple jellyfish has a yellow pencil!  Students will place a fun foam piece to identify and cover the small card.

Color-by-Code Jellyfish Vocabulary Worksheets

Four worksheets to do a color by the jellyfish. There are short phrases with the instructions in English, reinforcing vocabulary and language comprehension.

Use the resource to track student achievements. Have them match the school item word to the school item that the jellyfish has in each picture.

Or model  several sentences for your students to create their own using the pocket charts cards and use their creativity.

Making books individually or in groups will allow students to express their creativity even though there is a short paragraph with the colors. But, provide an outlet for them to complete the drawing as coloring the ocean and more items to each page.  They can also say more sentences to write to the story.

St. Patrick’s Day and the Insects unit for Kindergarten ELL

St. Patrick's Day is a cultural celebration in many countries. Give your students the cultural awareness of this tradition and celebration. I like to include the Holiday into a unit that I am currently teaching or that I just taught and use it as a review.

Language is interactive, so start by showing the Insects in green flashcards in a not real context. They should be able to guess the name of all the insects even in their green coloring body.

Students can use the small cards for self-paced learning. They can practice the insects words in English with this simple activity. Place all the small cards on a table and a sticker or fun foam piece on each one. As the student reads or says each word they can lift and keep the sticker. Then, they will know which words they were able to say or read.

These two worksheets are for reviewing the insects and for you to identify any gap in the understanding of this topic. Students will color, cut and paste on the jar or on the clover. Then, they will show their work: This is my clover. It has a bee, a ladybug and a dragonfly.

Find several strips of picture and a word to trace. Students will follow the lines of each letter to complete the word as they will develop fine motor skills much needed at this age. This is an idea that you can implement. Gather old CDs case and place the strip under the plastic and use dry erase markers for tracing.

Print the St. Patrick's Day and Insects domino game and practice the listening skills as the students will listen to your instructions for playing the game and engage in small conversation between them.

Valentine’s Day and the School Unit for Kindergarten English Language Learners

Start by promoting cultural awareness to your young students. This is a widely celebrated in many English-speaking countries, your qwill see many decorations at the stores, malls, and houses. Give your students the chance to become familiar with this Holiday, talk about the traditions such as the card exchange and any other customs that you want to include.

Show the Valentine’s Day flashcards using the school unit words that they already know. Play a short guessing game. Place all the cards facing backwards on the board or table. I wrote a number on each, but it is not necessary.  Have the students guess the flashcard when their turn comes up: Number 2 is an eraser! Teacher: Yes! You are right. Here you are.

Continue with the rest of the players.

Valentine’s Day small cards are for repetition and review of the school unit vocabulary. Use them to help students reinforce what they have learned in the unit.

Glue two heart dollies and leave a space to insert the cards. Place the small cards in the heart and have the students guess the card that is coming: eraser!!!

Two Valentine’s Day Worksheets for extra practice and a fun craft.

Have the students color the school objects as you dictate as a listening activity. Then, they will cut the items and the words and glue them onto heart dollies and make a banner for the classroom as a decoration. I have the banner folded in order to show it off on the picture.

Valentine’s Day Printable Games.

A heart puzzle. Use it for cognitive development. Students will have to through all the words and pictures to analyze and make the match, manipulating and fitting the puzzle pieces together, while enhancing their problem-solving ability.

Valentine’s day Picture Domino with the school items will provide visual support to remember the vocabulary more efficiently.

Valentine’s Day board games call for team building if you want to play the game in pairs and perfect for the Holiday.  They will work to get to the goal faster.

Christmas and the Face Unit for Kindergarten ESL

Christmas Faces Flashcards.

Hand in a flashcard to each student and have them assume that personality. Ask them questions: Who are you?

 Student: I am the Snowman!

Hand in the flashcards in random order to your students. You can print several sets, so you have a set for each group. Have your students in each group stand in line as you name the Christmas Flashcards: Santa Claus, Gingerbread man, Elf and Snowman. The first group to do so, says: In line! They can help each other to arrange themselves. Give them points and play several times.

Print the tokens available at this resource and give one to the winner every time they win to keep track of the rounds won.

 

Christmas and the face small cards activities

Have the students place items over the parts of the face. I used wiggly eyes, playdough for the nose and chenille that be easily bent for the mouth. You can go on for more items to supply the ears and hair.

Christmas and the face cutouts activities

I saw this idea on the website Mailbox.com of turning a ruler into a pointer. I just printed the images (dotted lines included), cut them and put masking tape behind each character to paste onto each ruler.

Use each ruler pointer to name each facial feature. VIDEO:

There is a set of flashcards from the Face unit that students can use the Christmas pointer to indicate each facial feature.

Teacher: Point to the eyes!
Students: eyes!
Teacher: Point to the mouth!
Students: mouth!
Teacher: Point to the hair!
Students: hair!

Show the students the small cards if you are doing online teaching and have them point to their Christmas printable.
Teacher: eyes!
Students: eyes!

The face unit also comes with big and small commands flashcards. Show the flashcard and have the student touch that facial feature on any Christmas character.

With the cutouts, the same thing, show each one and students point the matching one on each Christmas character.

Christmas and the face worksheets

Students will identify and name the parts of the face of each Christmas character: Look! The eyes, the nose, the ears, the mouth! Dictate the color of each one.

Teacher: Color the eyes blue!!

Have the students color the Elf as you dictate as a listening activity. Then, ask them to name a facial feature on the Elf and then touch on their own face: mouth!!

Ask questions: Is this the eye?

Students: No, it is the nose!

Use the words provided to label any worksheet and then have the students name each facial feature.

Do color the missing facial parts. Dictate the color of all the face parts in the worksheets: Color the eyes green!

Then, ask what parts of the face are missing. They will answer: the hair, the ears! Have them complete the Gingerbread man.

Another idea of a pointer that I saw, well more of a see through I would say. Print two of each Christmas light. Have the students color both. Cut each box and glue them together leaving an open space for inserting it into the ruler. When the glue is dry cut the space inside the lights. The students can use the see through ruler light to show each part of the face as they name it.

Student: eyes! Nose! Mouth!
