School and the Body Unit for Kindergarten ESL

The school objects have a body! Well, it is a review resource. By integrating these two themes, you can create activities that help students make connections between the vocabulary taught in a previous unit and the new one.

Start by printing the school vocabulary Flashcards to be used as Visual Aids. The flashcards come with pictures of common school objects (e.g., pencil, eraser, marker, scissors, glue, crayon, pencil case). Each card is labeled with the object's name in English. Prepare Interactive Practice games and activities.

Using flashcards encourages active participation. Have the students label the parts of the body of any classroom object. Labels help students connect the written body part word with the image, reinforcing the association between them.

Encouraging students to point to the body parts in each flashcard engages their kinesthetic learning style. Regularly pointing to and naming body parts on flashcards helps solidify vocabulary in students' minds.

Adjective Activity. 

Divide a flashcard in two. Label one side of the flashcard with "left" and the other with right. Have the students help label the corresponding body part (e.g., "left hand"), and another set with "right" and the corresponding body part (e.g., "right hand").

Cut several flashcards into sections (e.g., head, torso, legs) to create puzzles to enhance their problem-solving skills. Students will mix and match the pieces to form a complete body.

The small cards can be used as puppets for actions and role-play to engage with students’ kinesthetic learning styles.

Find all the school objects as worksheets with an outline of an item with body parts to label on a separate paper using the cut-out labels provided. Students cut out the labels and paste them next to the correct body parts on the outline.

Vocabulary worksheets to turn into cards to create several fun activities.

Players communicate with each other during gameplay with the printable board, practicing speaking and listening skills in a relaxed environment. I used mini erasers as markers.

Memory card games require players to remember the location of matching pairs of cards. This strengthens children's ability to recall information, which is essential for learning new vocabulary and concepts. Players may need to construct sentences when discussing the cards they flip over ("a glue person and a glue person, a match."). This activity promotes sentence formation and grammatical accuracy.

Valentine’s Day and the Body Unit for Kindergarten ELL

Based this resource on CUPID! Flashcards are great tools for expanding the vocabulary seen throughout the unit. Pick your communicative tasks to implement.

Print any of the flashcards that you wish that comes with actions for a TPR activity.

Use the Body unit cutouts from the resource that comes with dotted lines for easy cutting and create a poster with all the body and face words. Use it for reviewing all the vocabulary.

The Cupid on the worksheet is there as an engaging visual to capture the student’s attention. Two worksheets to do a labeling activity.  I just added a fun foam heart to little wood sticks. Labeling the parts of the body will allow the students to connect the body words to the part on the flashcard.

Build the new Halloween vocabulary with your students as you reinforce the clothes words. Have them notice that the children on the flashcards have a Holiday related vocabulary such as spider, candy corn, pumpkin, bat, ghost.

Teacher: What is this?
Teacher: Point to the candy corn on the boy!
Continue with the other images.

Have the students find what the children are wearing and make a mind map.
Teacher: This is a boy. What is he wearing?
Students: a t-shirt! Pants!
Teacher: What is on the t-shirt?
Students: a ghost! Show that flashcard.

Teaching clothes activity: There is a set of labels of words to attach to Halloween children in all the flashcards.

The worksheets provide structured practice of the clothes words within Halloween.

Season- Fall- Unit Flashcards for Kindergarten EFL

Fall Flashcards

Use them to have your students participate in Speaking Fluency with you and the classmates.Ask students about the colors of fall. What colors do you see?

By now, students can relate the colored leaves to the Fall or Autumn. Place the Fall flashcard on the board and the colored leaves, have the students describe each one.
Teacher: What is the Season?
Students: Fall!
Teacher: What color are the leaves?
Students: red! green! orange! purple! yellow! brown!
One student can come to point to each leaf as they are called.

Review the clothes items by using the scarecrow. Place the scarecrow flashcard along the fall season flashcard.
Teacher: What is the scarecrow wearing?
Students: shirt! Hat! Shoes! Overalls!

Lots of flashcards for sorting out the emotions on the Fall items (flower, leaf, scarecrow, pumpkin, apple, acorn) such as happy, sad and angry which are the basics.

Review the parts of the face ( nose,eyes, mouth,ears) with the scarecrows.

Check out the parts of the body with these flashcards.

Students might be in the prewriting step of their development. Place the scarecrow flashcard or any other on the board for this purpose. Labels give information about a picture and reviews the vocabulary with your English Learners. Start with labeling the picture with just words and later on, write phrases and then sentences for your students to label. In this example, students will label the parts of the face or the body and the clothes. Just write the words on strips of paper and have them start labeling. 

Fall Commands Flashcards. Students should be able to follow basic classroom language and carry out the action. You don’t want to translate, just use the card for those students that need extra instruction to do things. Say the word or phrase and demonstrate the action.

Use the classroom commands flashcards to give the students some movement, very much needed to give oxigen to their stressed bodies. Have them imitate the actions as they follow the command.

Teacher: Children, stand up!
Now, raise your hand!
And, read!
Show me your book!

There are many games that you can play to review the Numbers using these cute scarecrows flashcards. Place the cards on the board and ask questions.
Teacher: What number is this?
Students: three!!!

 There are several zoo animals to pick from to make your feed me box. I use recycled cereal boxes for this. This kind of game is perfect to improve speaking in a fun way without the anxiety.

Student: (picking the leaves cutout) Leaves!

Practice Vocabulary with Zoo Animal Labels

 Labeling is an easy activity to do with the cutouts. It connects print (a word) to a zoo animal picture. It helps to review vocabulary.

Teacher: Is this an elephant?
Student: yes, it is.

 Build Zoo Animal Words with Alphabet Cutouts

There is a set of cutouts letters to write zoo animals words. Use it with the cutouts, the worksheets, or the flashcards.

A mini unit to review the family members with BEARS! The resource also includes additional family-themed activities using bears to review family vocabulary, speaking skills, and role play with kindergarten English language learners.

Review Family Vocabulary with Bear Activities

Starting with flashcards, it only comes with mother, father, brother, sister and baby. The flashcards can be cut into strips and it turns into a puzzle.

The small cards can be good for copying the words using letters of the alphabet.

The gameboard is easy to set up for fun and easy review of the family bears.

Bear Family Bowling Speaking Game

Cut and paste the family members onto soda or water bottle. Start playing with a small ball. Students will say the family member word that is knocked. Good use of real English.

Bear Family Finger Puppet Role Play

 The finger puppet is a new idea that I tried. I found an old glove and cut the fingertips and glued the family members templates. Turned out easy to make. Students can express ownership and the family relationship using the pronoun my.

Student: This is my father! This is my mother!

Bear Family Worksheets for Vocabulary Reviews

This is the bear house with the family members to cut and paste. You can also review the parts of the house.

Have the students color the parts of the face on each bear. 

Teacher: color the nose red!

Students can also create a mask for role play.

All these printables can be used by parents for in home-learning.
