Plan enjoyable experiences to do in class.The books can be read more than once in class, at home or within a group until they become a reader. Students will go over listening comprehension. Ask them to listen for details as they identify and describe the vehicles.

I made two books this time, one is zoo animals in jeeps and another one is zoo animals in race cards.

This book has a worksheet to complete the activity and even more by turning each jeep into a puppet to read the book. Puppets are useful for speaking, students usually make an effort to say the sentences because they feel more confident using the puppet. Just cut and glue the zoo animal to a craft stick.

Giraffe Goes to School Printable Book

Another book featuring a giraffe that goes to school. There is a colored version that you can print and read in class or use it as a pdf that you can read on a tablet to your class.

I made a black and white version to make a class book in which each student will color a page of the book. They can also color the sight word such as giraffe, school, the. Send book home for the students to read with their parents.

Zoo Animals Headband Craft Activity

This is an enjoyable activity for your students. Crafts are tied to creativity. Make these cute Headbands. During the activity students can listen to commands for creating the headband, such as cut, color and more. The students have to use their imagination and creativity along with their fine motor skills to create their masterpiece.

Zoo Animal Reward System for ESL Motivation

Zoo Animals Unit Rewards help booster confidence in learning English. The motivation is important for keeping students on task. Start your reward system.Recognize your student's work on that day. It can be a recognition to the winners of any the games or the completion of the worksheet. Students that are shy in class and participated that day, give him/her a reward for their bag. It can also be a bag for the table. At the end of the unit count how many rewards each student or group got and plan what they will get, such as a longer recess, a candy, anything works.

Glue the zoo animals cutouts onto small plastic ziplock kind of bags.

You can use anything to receive as a rewards, either bottle caps, zoo animal cutouts, peanuts for the elephant, whatever your imagination comes up with. And remember to say why they won a piece to the put in the reward bag and then count to the amount of pieces they won to a bigger prize that you have in mind.

Another way to do it is using lunch bags. All the templates have easy to cut dotted lines. You can either open the mouth or not. It depends on what is easy for you. Glue the templates onto the lunch bags and cut the excess from the top of the bag. I used fun foam stars that I had as rewards for the students.

And there is another set of zoo animals in jeeps. It goes along a printable book added to this resource. You can use the book to read as the students color the jeeps. There is a zoo animal words printable to label the pictures in the worksheets.

Peer learning can be done with the zoo scene. Give a set of worksheets to a group of two or three students so they can assemble their zoo in any way they want.

Zoo Animal Number Review Worksheets

A Zoo Number review using this set of worksheets that can be done by groups. I created a poster by gluing them in a vertical way.Ask the students to count the animals next to each number.

Teacher: How many lions are there?

Students: There are five lions.

More numbers as students match the monkey numbers cards to the words for strong number sense ability. Have the students color the numbers as you indicate.

Teacher: Color number 1 green!

They can finish coloring the pictures.

Help develop number sense at this learning stage with even more practice with the penguins. Dictate the color of each number and then students glue the word next to each number. Even further, have the students cut all the penguins and place them in numerical order.

What Zoo Animals Eat Worksheets

 You can use the worksheets as you teach this concept with the flashcards or cutouts. Students will associate the zoo animal to what they eat as they draw those items.

Feelings and Emotions with Zoo Animals Worksheets

 The resource includes three sorting worksheets featuring the basic emotions happy, sad, and angry, along with one page of zoo animals to color, cut, and glue onto the correct worksheet. Students first color the animal faces, cut the pictures, and then decide which emotion each animal is showing before gluing it in the appropriate place.

Community Helpers Printable book

Using a printable book in your ESL classroom helps students connect images with vocabulary.

Read to your young students as you expose them to the language enriching vocabulary that they already know. Include this in your English Lesson plan for your kids.

Remember to ask questions about the pictures. The students can have the books to take home and read with their parents. Print the books on card stock instead of paper for durability. This book is interactive as students cut and paste the community helpers to their work space. Pasting is also a fine motor skill to develop at this age.

Vocabulary-Based craft Activity for the Community Helpers 

Moving those little fingers will help with the fine motor skills as they express themselves making their favorite community helper. Glue the facial features, hair and hats onto a paper plate to make their favorite community helper. There you have puppets for many other activities.

Students can point to each one and identify them.

 After coloring the drawings ,students cut and paste the items as they sort them into happy, sad or angry. I assembled the three pages into a book.

Students listen and point:

Teacher: Point to the sad lemonade!

Students can named each food item along with the emotion.

Students: a happy cereal!

Just watch on how I assembled the worksheets and how I used them for listening and speaking.

Plate and food worksheet

Three ways to use it. One is to cut and paste the food from the template. The other is to have students to cut food from magazines. Check with your students the eating utensil on the worksheet: fork, knife.
Have the students describe their worksheet. There is a hamburger. There are some french fries.
Ask more questions: What do you have for lunch?
Student: I have a hot dog and a salad.
Ask more questions: Is there any pasta on your plate?
Student: No, there isn't. There is some salad.

Students listen, draw and color.

Teacher: Draw two hamburgers. Draw three hot dogs. Draw lemonade.

Use the worksheet for speaking!

Six plates to color as written on each one and place food on the plates as the students listen. 

Teacher: Put the egg on the yellow plate.

What color is the chicken?

Students: brown!

Trace and color food unit worksheets

Motivate your students to stay on the lines as they trace each picture and/or word. Puppets can be made as an extra activity for these worksheets. Students can say sentences using the verb eat. I eat pizza!

Use the worksheet to express likes. Then, say what they don't like about the food and drinks.

Utensils worksheets

 Dictate the color of each utensil. Have the students cut each one and organize them on a table. You can have them make a placemat with construction paper. Tell the students to set the table as they listen to your instructions.

Teacher: Put the plate on the placemat! Put the fork next to the plate!

Continue with spoon, knife, napkin and glass

Pull out the menu worksheet!

Play around with the cutouts before they create their menus. Have the students sort the drinks and food items.

Help them associate being hungry with food and thirsty with drinks.

There is a shopping list and a shopping cart available and some market items. Students cut and paste everything they would want to buy into the cart or the list. They can also draw the items or cut food from magazines or supermarket ads.

Students will make sentences. I want bread and cereal.

Besides of food going into the lunch box it goes on the table. There are three table worksheets, one for each meal. Students can cut and paste the food that belongs to each meal or simply draw what they usually eat for that meal.

Review the numbers 1 to 10 

There are two sets of worksheets, one with cereal and another with pepperoni. It is a cut and paste worksheet. You can also make a matching game if you use them as cards.

More number practice as independent work. It's a color by number activity.

 You can dictate what to draw or each person.

Teacher: Mommy is drinking lemonade! Draw the lemonade.

Another way could be that students draw what they want and then say the sentence.

Student: Daddy is eating a hamburger.

You can use this worksheet for the fruit and vegetable unit.

Shapes to review with the pizzas

Teacher: How many pizzas do you see?

Students: four!

Find the triangle! Point to the triangle! Color the triangle blue.

After all the pizza shapes are colored have the students cut and glue the word.

The food has facial features to color as you say.

Teacher: Look at the sandwich! Color the eyes purple. Color the mouth red! What's missing?

Students: hair! ears! nose!

Teacher: OK! Just draw and color them on the sandwich.
