Shape Worksheets for Preschool ELL

I prepared more worksheets. This time for the Shape Theme. The link includes the worksheets and more from my other blog.
https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Shape-Unit-for-Preschool-and-Elementary-ESL-3813551

Worksheet 1. Flashcards. I use this worksheet as flashcards. Play some of the games posted in my other blog entries. Then children glue each one onto paper plates and cut them in different ways to create puzzles.

Worksheet 2.  Great for reviewing boy and girl and making patterns.  I made the children draw a silhouette around each boy in blue and  red for the girls. Then cut all the silhouettes and make a pattern on the desk. The pattern can be according to the shapes or colors.

Teacher: boy, girl, boy, girl.
Once the pattern has been established, children make a necklace to take home and repeat the pattern to their parents.

Worksheet 3. Here we review colors, use bottle caps .
Teacher: yellow bottle cap on the yellow triangle!
Teacher: green bottle cap on the red circle.
Give more directions.
I placed colored paper with the shape on it. I had some shapes from an old book and had the children sort them by shape and then by color.

Worksheet  4. I designated a color for each shape.
Teacher: Find all the circles. Color the circles green.
Students cut all the shapes. Previously, prepare Cd envelopes  and glue a shape on each. Have all the children at the table place all the shapes in the designated envelope.

Worksheet 5. The first worksheet has to be colored as you assign. Then, children can cut out the shapes and make a sequence as you say them:
Teacher: triangle, circle,square, rectangle.
Hand them the shape book printable. It´s better if you put it together and just have them glue in the sequence that you said or have the students make up a sequence. The book folds up into a small packet and opens as in the picture.

Worksheet 6. Again have the students color the shapes, notice that some are big and the others are small. There is another worksheet with the words.
Give the students a big paper and have them sort the shapes and glue the corresponding words.

Worksheet 7. This worksheet has to do with the parts of the face. Students add the missing part.
Teacher: Look at the triangle. What´s missing ?
Students: The ears!
Teacher: Let´s draw the ears. Color the triangle green.
Continue with the other shapes.

This girl has grown up. I have this picture on Pinterest with more than 6300 repins and thought that I could redo the necklace.

The Shapes flashcards and more resources are included along these worksheets on this blog post. They can be found at my other blog and are perfect for Preschool as well.

ALPHABET

Try to squeeze in even a 10 to 15 minute alphabet lesson. Use alphabet songs, books and coloring pages, crafts to make it fun.
I created my own flashcards letters and are available fat www.teacherspayteachers.com
Here are links:
Full sized letters: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alphabet-Letters-for-EFL-Learners

Half size letters: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alphabet-cards-two-letters-on-one-page

Four letters on a page: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alphabet-Small-Flashcards

As always, great material can be found at www.makinglearningfun.com, I love using clothespins, these are wooden with the Capital letters written with a sharpie.

Alphabet games are great to plan for your lesson.Designate a letter for each week, using a particular order or not, depending on your syllabus.
File folder games: you can use basic file folders, but I loved colored ones. it is very easy to storage, so you can make lots of them and take up little space in your classroom. This file is from www.kidssoup.com, you need to pay a suscription fee. I have the file if you need them.
I love fun foam, it´s so nice the material and so many possibilities. I found these letters and placed them on flowers which was the theme I was working on.

Using craft sticks, make some letter pointers.

Or using these fun foam mats, make more pointers and recycle a can.

Work on fine motor coordination, even if you get to see your students only once or twice a week.

Lacing can be done with boys and girls, both of them will wear shoes with laces.
I use traditional colored laces of cord, but leather, vinyl ,plastic, suede laces are used as well.

More alphabet ideas, activities and downloads in other blog posts.

Quiet Critters

This is a Pinterest idea, I´m very addicted to it. Thinking that it might be nice to try it out with the preschoolers. Tell them that the  Quiet Critters come out when the classroom is super quiet. Place a critter on the desk of those students that are working quietly.
The critters belong to the classroom, they are not allowed to be taken home.
Just plan on how and when to use them. Take pictures and upload them at the Facebook group: ESL/EFL Preschool Teachers.

You will need some colored pom poms, make them yourself or used the commercial ones. Then, hot glue a fun foam heart that would be the feet and add googly eyes

This works as a nice incentive. It might be good to make extra Quiet critters just in case they get lost or the eyes fall off.

If you have any more ideas on how to use these, let me know and be a guest blogger here telling us about it. I´d love to see how your Critters turned out...

Alphabet Theme

Learning the letters of the alphabet is the first phase of reading and writing instruction.Teach the alphabet to kindergarten students at their last year before going to 1st grade, so they have already learned their first language letters. If teaching lowercase or Capital letters, follow the school´s insight about this. Teach the letter names and then later during the school year go on with the letter sound. Learning letter names first helps a child learn letter sounds latter. Teach in alphabetical order. Teaching the alphabet can be a lot of fun if you get creative every kid loves some form of a game, song or activity.

Start with the ABC song. Sing it as often as possible,  whenever you have a free moment.Post  the alphabet  somewhere in your classroom. This is a must-have when teaching ABCs. Point to each letter when you sing the song.
Flaschcards:  make your own cards.Hang them up in a special part of the room. Use them properly. Here are links for printing flashcard letters:

Clothespin Activity:
Here´s another clothespin game. The template is from www.growingkinders.blogspot.com. If you can´t find it, write to me: ei98srl@gmail.com

Pompom letters: the template  is from www.childcareland.com. Hope it´s still available in her site, if you can´t find it, please write  and I´ll send it to you (ei98srl@gmail.com). It´s a nice way to use colorful pompom which come in a variety of colors and sizes.
Each child grabs a supply of pompoms and place them in the space provided in each letter. I printed the letters onto construction paper , cut them and paste onto another construction paper. Here´s the complete set.

Gingerbread Man

Finger Puppets: Love how they turned out.

Cutouts: The book I am using came with the cutouts that I use as story props, but you can make you own. I always glue a craft stick on each so it´s easier to handle.

Order by size: Got the templates at http://www.kidssoup.com/, but you can make your own, using any template available on the web.

Lacing Cards: I got them from a nice blog: http://www.thoughtsofme.blogspot.com/

Puzzle: I have this from many years ago. I got this from http://www.gigglygames.com/
I also made another puzzle using old Christmas cards.

Pompoms: I love to use pompoms. Here are some ideas.

Flip Book: The template from http://www.makinglearningfun.com/.

File Folder Games: I found file folder games at http://www.makinglearningfun.com/, and used nice colored folders.

Die games:There are many die games, but this one as a file folder game. Ask me for the templates. Check out http://www.makinglearningfun.com/, where you can find other versions.

Color Sorting Activity: Found this is at http://www.makinglearningfun.com/, and made my own version. It´s an easy game. Add the color word if you´re working with older kids.

Gingerbread House: This cute bag makes a nice decoration for your room where you´re on the Gingerbread man unit. Find it at http://www.kidssoup.com/

On and under: If you want to review prepositions, use the Gingerbread Man and a chair, or place him anywhere.

Crafts: I printed a Gingerbread Man on brown construction paper, but fun foam will do. Then have children decorate with sequins, buttons and whatever you have handy. http://www.4shared.com/document/Y6A2ugtC/blog_7.html

Patterns: The book Sprinkles 1, suggested an activity making patterns, each child colored their Gingerbread Man in only one color. Then with all children, make a pattern, like yellow, red, yellow, red and so on. You can do it with any Gingerbread man template.

Gingerbread Man Accordion Book: I made this book in a different way. I found it on web long time ago, but can´t remember where.
please write if you want a copy.

Gingerbread Man Rocklet Fun: I did this with Rocklets Candies, but you can use M&Ms, Dandy or any similar ones. I got the idea at http://www.makinglearningfun.com/, a wonderful site for ESL Teachers, always check it out.

Gingerbread Man crowns: I made my own crown template. Here´s the link to download the templates and make your own:

Flower Theme

1. Alphabet: I made my own flower alphabet.
I used the template( http://www.abcteach.com/free/f/flower2_m.pdf) and premade letters.

Have students put the alphabet in the correct ABC order or make words.

2. Dice Game: I always place the dice games on a colored file folder, so I can use many times. (http://makinglearningfun.com/) Using a colored dice, give the child the folder that has the instructions . Have the child roll the dice. If he gets a four, he can place the corresponding part. He continues to roll the die as long as he gets the next number he needs to place the next feature of the object. Continue until the flower is complete.

3. Rhyme ( 5 little flowers) : (http://www.kidssoup.com/) I used a glove and velcro to create this wonderful handpuppet that can make any storybook or rhyme come alive . A 5 story characters is ideal for using one for each finger on the hand . This is the same glove I used for the Family Theme.

Five Little Flowers
Five little flowers growing outside my door, I picked the red flower, now there are four.
Four little flowers, the prettiest I've ever seen, I picked the yellow flower, now there are three.
Three little flowers, just a lovely few, I picked the purple flower, now there are two.
Two little flowers reaching for the sun, I picked the orange flower, now there is one.
One little flower, a blue little hero, I picked it just for you, now there are zero!

4. Cupcake Daffodil. (http://www.kidssoup.com/ )You will need cupcake liners , the template, tissue paper. I glued colored pasta inside the cupcake or you place the child´s picture inside.

5. Flower Grid. I saw the idea here: http://www.prekinders.com/. I used my mini flowers and it turned out cute and fun. They teach one to one correspondence, counting, and numeral identification. Have the child roll a game dice, identify the numeral, count out that amount of mini flowers and placed them over each picture in the grid. Play until the whole grid is full. I used the grid game with 20 spaces . Then have the students sort the miniflowers by color.

6. Lacing card: lacing is good for fine motor skill practice, besides practice in tying knots and bows. The kids can decorate with paper cutouts or stickers.
