Color by number worksheets are a puzzle in it’s own way as students match the colors assigned to each part of the drawing reinforcing the color words. There is one item per season. Children will have a sense of initiative as they can work alone with kind of worksheet.

!st grade worksheets

The worksheets are intended to be completed in a short period of time due to your learner’s attention span. Easy worksheets to color the Seasonal trees and then cut into pieces and create a puzzle.

I saw this nice activity in Instagram- La Casita Educativa. It’s basically getting an egg carton, I used a 6 egg holder but a bigger ones would be better.

Stuents will color the worksheets as indicated on each Seasonal item.

Then, have them cut each picture and glue it onto craft sticks to make puppets that you can use for even more games later.

I glued a small piece of carton and cut four slits on top of an egg carton.

Color your own worksheets and make a pattern sheet that your will recreate on the egg carton and name each item as the put the puppet into the slit.

 Students: pengin, snowman, snowflake.

Identify patterns

Worksheets are for students to use all their creativity in completing them. This set of worksheets is based on the basic emotions: happy, sad and angry. Students can complete the face if you want. Then, they can cut all the items and sort them into feelings.

Seasons emotions worksheets

Check on your student’s progress on the unit by using the worksheets. Review the parts of the face and/or the body. Students can name the aprts of the body on each item on the worksheet, such as the snowman: arms, hands, legs, head, stomach, etc.

worksheets to Review the parts of the face and/or the body.

Worksheets are for further practice to consolidate and review vocabulary from previous units such the face. There is a set of acorns, one for reviewing the facial features.

Teacher: Color the eyes blue! (Continue with the other facial features)
Have the students notice that some facial features are missing.
Teacher: What's missing?

Seasons Group Bingo. There are four Seasons worksheets that your students will complete. Hand in only one to each student, not the four worksheet to make the game fun.

Cutouts for the Seasons Unit Teaching

I am seeing more teachers use cutouts for their lessons. Used right, it increases imagination as students interact with their classmates. Great for speaking opportunities and problem solving. They also provide a hands-on learning experience. So, get started planning a variety of fun activities for your class.

Impulse direct communication between the student when they sort the trees based on how they look in each Season.

Cutouts for the Seasons Unit Teaching

Use the Seasons headers to sort the children in Seasonal clothes small cards. Students can integrate problem solving and the speaking skill as they describe the sorting.

But the headers work for sorting the tree crafts.
Seasons unit trees cutouts

There is a window cutout in color and b/w, just add a craft stick, well I added two. Have the students use the window cutouts and say what’s the season they can see.

2nd graders Seasons Unit cutouts

By now, you now that I like making scenes with the cutouts to have students placing them in the corresponding scene and have a complete vision of how the season changes with time. Talk about how the trees change according to the Season, also have them point out what they observe. Students can identify where things are using the prepositions of place: The bird is next to the flower.

Students sort the cutouts before placing them in the corresponding Season.

There is a set of numbers 1 to 10 cutout for each Season.

I made an easel out of a box. I added Velcro to the easel and wrote the numbers in random order. I glued Velcro on the back of each cutout. Here is an example with the Spring bees.

This is the Fall version with the scarecrow.

Season Unit small cards for Kindergarten ESL

The Seasons unit resource is available for teaching Kindergarten English Language Learners (Pre-K)in school. The focus of this blog post will be on the small cards for teaching online or with small groups. Click on the Link to the complete resource:   https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Seasons-Unit-for-Kindergarten-Holistic-English-Series-28-8266053

A quote from Alexander von Humboldt " A language cannot be taught. One can only create conditions for learning to take place"

Small Cards for the Seasons Unit are just a version of the flashcards for small group instruction or online use. They are useful for introducing the new words. Printing is easier and small enough for the little hands to manipulate. Useful enough for the internalization of the patterns exposed in language. The materials will encourage collaborative and cooperative learning.

A sorting activity in which students will place the children cards in the corresponding season just by observing the clothes. Students can describe what they are wearing.Have them name common clothing item on several seasons, for example, hat.

Have your students work together to sort the cards according to the items that identify each season, such as weather, trees, animals and more. They will gain confidence in speaking English naturally as they name all the words.

A favorite game for so many teachers, the fly swatter!

(Pre-K) seasons unit fly swatter game

I have been seeing lots of boom box or mystery box where teachers hide objects or cards and then pull out for the students to name. I gave it a try and named it the magic box. Show me yours if you make one.

Display all the small cards on a table or floor. Grab some bottle caps and dice and you have a board game. When a sudents lands on a card, they have to name the season: Summer!

SUMMER Flashcards. Use these as a Visual Grammar Aid. Perfect to present the new vocabulary. Students will learn the ability to listen to other people such as the teacher and the classmates.

Present your Summer Flashcards and ask:
Do you like Summer? What's the weather like?

Summer Commands Flashcards are more into what people do at the beach. Tell students to mime the actions as if they are at the beach or maybe at the park.

Summer Commands Flashcards

Vary the activities that you do with the flashcards. These have a face to label. You can also have the students guess what's missing and add them on as they say.
Teacher: What's missing?
Students: the nose on the crab!
The ears! Hair!

Visual Grammar approach

Review the emotions using these cute crabs. Students can interact with language presented.
Teacher: Make an angry face like the crab.

Summer numbers flashcards for counting or to play many other games for your students to have fun with language in different contexts.
Name the numbers as you point to them and your students will repeat. Invite a student to draw a big circle around the flashcard that you call.

A simple game to play with the Seasons Flashcards as a teaching tool.

Use the die game as an easy Preschool activity to do in class. Place your 6 flashcards inside a plastic sleeve. Then place another paper with a number from 1 to six on the other side to cover the flashcard. You make 2 sets and use two dice. Set them on a table or a board.

As a student throws the die, turns the card with that number and names the flashcard. Remove the card if said correctly, if not, put it back.
