prepositions of place ESL kindergarten firefly activity in on under

This material is intended to review or teach prepositions using the firefly. It's a grammar extension for this unit. Students will learn to describe the basic spatial relationships, such as "in," "on," "under," "next to, "behind," "in front of”. You can teach the irst three and then the others. It depends on your class.  Prepositions are essential for understanding simple directions and following any instruction that you give in class.

 preposition and the fireflies flashcards

Each flashcard features a firefly representing a preposition. The written form of the preposition is in bold, easy-to-read text under each illustration.

Another activity is to glue the jar pictures onto plastic cups. Have your die ready. I also glued a craft stick behind the firefly.

Place a ball of play dough next to the next to cup, behind the behind cup and in front of the in front of cup. This will enable the craft stick to stand and perform the preposition definition.

Numbers 1-10 beads activity kindergarten ESL learners

This Numbers 1–10 Beads activity is an extension resource designed to enrich your Numbers Unit for Kindergarten English Language Learners. It is included in the complete unit, but it can also be used as a standalone resource for additional practice, review, or assessment.

Let’s start with the visual aids such as the numbers flashcards as a review. Using flashcards as a warm-up helps students feel confident and prepared, especially when transitioning into more interactive activities.

Counting beads flashcards

This activity adds a hands-on, tactile element to number learning.Use these to count aloud and practice the colors as well.

HANDS-ON MANIPULATIVES

Utilize hands-on manipulatives like counting beads if you have them, wiggly eyes or bottle caps. ELLs can physically manipulate these objects while counting, and matching to the numbers on each card reinforcing the connection between numbers and quantity. Use this activity for any math assessment.

Use repetition to reinforce understanding by using all the cards illustrations to glue onto a brown lunch bag to do more counting. I used pompoms for this interactive tool.

numbers 1 to 10 mats

Provide additional support for students by playing with these number mats for many games. There are three, one with the beads, one with number words and another with the numeral. One mat will be board and the other can be cut and used as cards to match.

Kindergarten math games

Here’s my example: Match the number word to the beads on the mat.

Jellyfish at School

This resource is included in Sea Unit for Kindergarten-Holistic English Series #28 at this link:

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Sea-Unit-for-Kindergarten-Holistic-English-Series-29-8348964

I love to cross the different themes to provide opportunities for reinforcement of key vocabulary from another unit. Integrating the school unit either the sea unit keep the curriculum dynamic, fun and engaging for your young learners.

Start by printing your Jellyfish at school flashcards to build more vocabulary and overall learning.

Ask your students what each jellyfish has and write the school word on the board.

Point and speak. I made this pointer with a fun foam piece that I had.
Ask questions: What’s this?
Students: It’s a jellyfish.
Teacher: What color is the jellyfish?
Students: It’s yellow.
Teacher: What does the jellyfish have?
Students: a crayon.

Here's the video with the speaking part:

Small cards with Jellyfish at School. Use these for various interactive activities. Here is one in which students will match the school objects to the ones the jellyfish have.

Teacher: pencil! Find the jellyfish with a pencil.

Student: The purple jellyfish has a yellow pencil!  Students will place a fun foam piece to identify and cover the small card.

A video to see how to use the find and match:

Four worksheets to do a color by the jellyfish. There are short phrases with the instructions in English, reinforcing vocabulary and language comprehension.

Pocket charts. Use the resource to track student achievements. Have them match the school item word to the school item that the jellyfish has in each picture.

Provide tailored learning as creating sentences for students that are ready,

Or model  several sentences for your students to create their own using the pocket charts cards and use their creativity.

Printable book. Making books individually or in groups will allow students to express their creativity even though there is a short paragraph with the colors. But, provide an outlet for them to complete the drawing as coloring the ocean and more items to each page.  They can also say more sentences to write to the story.
