Christmas Flashcards using the birthday unit vocabulary for Grammar Practice to reinforce the basic structures.

Have the students name the parts of the body of the cookie. Write them down on the board. Labeling will support comprehension for the students that don’t remember any word. You can also encourage students to touch to different parts of the cookie’s body.

Christmas Flashcards

Counting from 1 to 10 is a foundational skill to practice over and over again in different contexts.

Place all the Christmas cookies flashcards on the board. Have the students come and count the cookies on each tray and write the number next to each one.

Counting from 1 to 10

Play fly swatter! To develop basic numeracy skills helping your students practice the concept of quantity.

Counting from 1 to 10

You can give the students the set of the Christmas candies flashcards and have them place all the cards in order from 1 to 10. This kind of activity will teach sequential thinking and understanding for later on going to bigger numbers.

Christmas candies flashcards

Students can also sort the Christmas candies flashcards by colors on the board. This is a fun and engaging activity to categorize words. Prepare and print your set of cards. The sorting area can be the floor or a table, besides the board.

Christmas candies flashcards by colors

Sort the Christmas gifts, candies, cookies, lollipops Flashcards by shapes. It will help with language development by using the vocabulary related to the basic shapes such as: circle, square, triangle and rectangle.

Student: a circle present!

More sorting but with the emotions: happy, sad and angry! The activity can be done on the board or designate an area for each feeling, such as the happy side of the room, the angry one and a sad place. Students can go to each place and put the corresponding Christmas Emotions flashcards, as they mime each emotion: a happy cookie!!!

Christmas Small Cards.

The small cards version of the flashcards above are great for interactive learning activities.

Here are three games to do in class to promote active participation even with the shy students.

Sorting by emotions on the board.

Have the students do a simple sorting on the board. You can keep the activity up in the classroom for easy reference to help your students express their feelings using the cards.

Sorting by emotions on the board.

Create a puzzle by cutting the word from each card.

Great activity for the understanding of numbers in English. Students will match the number word to the quantity represented on each cookie tray. This kind of activity will develop a foundation in numeracy in the new language.

Create a puzzle by cutting the word from each card.

Throw a beanbag.

Display all the cards that you would like to play.  Find a bean bag or a Christmas ornament. I used a felt one that I had. This is a physical activity game with language development involved. Fine and gross motor skills will be put to practice as the students will throw the ornament to the number that you say: Throw the beanbag to number five! Precision would also be needed to apply.

Christmas Worksheets.

You can use the worksheets in a collaborative lesson plan. Students can get into teams and do the worksheets together to encourage communication in the new language.

This is a fun worksheet in which the students will listen the body part that you say and the color to complete it: Color the arms orange! Students can also draw the parts of the body or face that are not there.

These read and color worksheets includes a simple color word for your student to read and understand and then, to color accordingly. This skill is crucial for language development in the future.

emotions worksheet for kindergarten

Students can communicate as they work together on the worksheets, as they talk about the quantities on the cookie sheets, the presents on the sleigh or the candies in the jars. They will understand the numerical information on the worksheets to complete each one.

Christmas Games.

Students love games. These will give your students the opportunity to practice speaking and listening as they take turns to say the color of a present and the other student has to place the corresponding word card. You can play this game in which students have to place the colored present on the color word.

Or, cut all the cards and use it as a matching game.

The same game, but with numbers to promote the critical thinking skill in another language. Students will pair the number word to the quantity represented on each card.

There are several Number Matching mats to choose from or do them all.

You can also do the puzzle activity with the flashcard.

Students will create a stick puppet with ANY OF Christmas character on the worksheets to review the parts of the body: knees, body, legs, shoulders, hands, head, arms and feet. Use a pointer. I made mine with a straw and a fun foam star.

Students will point to each part of body and name it: leg.

Students will point to each part of the body as you name each one using a pointer. Ask questions: look at the Elf’s body! How many shoulders does she have? Students: two! How many heads does she have? Students: One!

Ask students: Who is this?
Students: Santa Claus!
Teacher: Santa Claus has no clothes. Let’s see his body parts.
Listen and color!
These are Santa’s hands. Color them black!
These are Santa’s legs. Color them red.
These are Santa’s arms. Color them blue.
These are Santa feet. Color them green.

Have your older students label the parts of the body on the worksheet and make a poster for the classroom. It can also be labeling the flashcards.
