Here we go with another unit: The House teaching resource for you with many ideas and activities to write your lesson plan. Link to the complete resource of parts of the house for preschoolers: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/House-Unit-for-Kindergarten-Holistic-English-Series-13-6589218
I would teach this unit in three parts.
Part 1. Parts of the house:roof,
chimney, windows, door.
Introduce the word house to your students. Show the picture flashcards and have the students say the color of each one.
Teacher: Look! It's a yellow house.
Students: It's a blue house.
Use the parts of the house flashcards to make a mind map activity to introduce the verb to be.
Teacher: This is a house. It's yellow. The roof is blue.
Here is a set of houses flashcards featuring a different color of roof, windows and doors. It is great for asking questions: Look at this house. What color is the roof?
Students: red!
Teacher: Show me the house with a green door!
Students: here!
Teacher: Touch the blue windows!
There is a worksheet that goes with these flashcards. have the students color the roof, the door and windows in any combination they wish in the red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, pink.
Show one flashcard at a time and the students will cross out each one they have.
Teacher: a yellow roof! orange windows, pink door.
Now, the cutouts to review the parts of the house. You
can print onto colored paper to save on ink. I printed some parts in colors and others onto
colored paper. Cut out all the pieces and have them ready to use with the
students. Hand in the cutouts to random students.
Teacher: Who has the
door? Bring the door. Put it on the board.
Continue with all the parts of the house until the
house is assembled.
Look at the door! What shape is the door?
Students: It's a rectangle.
Have the students review the shapes.
Speaking activities with the cutouts.
I
made the house cutouts from 1 to 10 to
review the sequencing numbers. Have the students place the house on a clothesline in
number sequence. Model a sentence.
Teacher: Number one is green!
Students: Number 2 is red.
Ask
questions:
Teacher: What color is number three?
Students: brown!
Ask questions with can.
Teacher: Can you see a yellow house?
Students: yes!
Teacher: What number is it?
Students: nine!
More activities to do with cutouts:
There are houses with shapes cutouts.
Teacher: What shape is this?
Students: circle!
Teacher: It's a circle house.
Small cards are
for working with groups on tables or for distance learning.
Several House Unit worksheets for kids to practice the parts of the house. This one is just by
doing a color, cut and paste beside tracing the words. Helping with fine motor
skills as students form a house with geometric shapes: square, rectangle, circle and triangle.
Watch:
And review the shapes with these houses. Dictate the colors of each house as they focus on each shape.
Teacher: Find the circle house. Color the house green.
You can also dictate the colors of the doors, windows and roof. I made a road with back cardboard and placed the puppets I made with the houses.
Use the worksheet for a later speaking activity:
A similar neighborhood using the worksheets but with bigger houses and more on the crafty side. There are four house models to color. Have your students color with crayons, markers, watercolors and decorate their house with any crafty objects that you have. Children can cut their house and glue it onto toilet paper rolls to create the neighborhood. Then, do a show and tell or ask questions about their house.
Use the worksheet as an assessment. This is a worksheet for labeling the parts of the house. After the
worksheet was colored, I glued the worksheet onto cardboard and opened the
door. Introduce: Open the door! Close the door!
Color by number is also fun and easy. The
worksheet is helpful as a review of colors and numbers.
Have the students color the windows on each house
and count them as they trace the number word. Dictate the color of each
separate number sheet. Then, students paste each number to the corresponding
house.
More things to do with the worksheet:
More worksheets for extra practice having the
students use any kind of crayons or markers, watercolors.
This is the draw my house worksheet for preschoolers where students will draw their house, have them show it to the class and say the sentence: This is my house.
House Unit Game board. There are several houses in different colors. Students will name the house they land on. Example: a blue house!
Another game is a Parts of the house BINGO! Includes in different colors the roof, the door, window. You can play with primary colors only or secondary only or however you wish. There are 4 student's bingo template that will color the roof, door and windows in their template but in the colors that are playing. use your calling cards to start playing.
The Bingo cards are great for your students to sort by parts of the house or by color.
Here is another printable game to reinforce the sorting of the house and the parts of house by color.
Print the color word mat and glue it onto a file folder or a nice cardboard as mine.Students will match either individually or with a partner the picture to the word. Students can play by one saying a color word and the other one has to look for the corresponding picture to match.
Student: a green roof!
House Unit Printable book. By
putting the book together students will learn how the book is organized that
there is a print sentence and a picture. It is a cut and paste sentences after
coloring. Read the phrases to the students. Have them color the corresponding
part of the house. After all the pictures are colored, students cut each phrase
and paste where it belongs.
Take a look:
House Unit Craft. The students will make their own
house to wrap up this section!
this is how I made mine!
A craft for you to make, pointers! I used craft sticks to
glue the house templates and other glitter beads that I had at home.
HOLIDAYS!

Worksheets that can be transformed into a Valentine's Day card bag. Just print either the tracing the house worksheet or the complete house one.
There are several worksheets for your students to choose from.
Students can cut the house and create a village or neighborhood for the classroom decoration.
I created a bag to put in all the Valentine's Day cards. I used fun foam and yarn to sew it up.
Here I am with my Valentine's Day bag made with the worksheet.
A set of houses cutouts with the Valentine's Theme.
