Birthday Unit Balloons

This resource is part of the Birthday Unit. You can check it out here:  https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Birthday-Unit-for-Kindergarten-Holistic-English-Series-14-6655450

The series of blog post starts here:   https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2021/03/birthday-unit-flashcards-for-ell.html

The focus of this resource is on counting balloons from 1 to 10.

Starting with the flashcards. Place them on the board and have the students write the numeral next to each one. Review the numbers as you count the balloons.

There is the set of the numeral balloons for the students to match to numbers words flashcards.

I always add small cards for groups of 4 or 5 children. Print as many as you need. Students can match as the number words balloons and the numeral balloons.

Let’s play the tower game. I’ve been seeing it in several Instagram accounts and you can tell that stduents love it.Students will build the tower with plastic cups as they say the number on each card.

Cut the word out of the small card and students have to match them.

Use fun foam pieces or any other object that you have for the students to cover the card as you say the number. Number nine!

I collected yogurt bottle caps and wrote a number on each one with a sharpie marker. Students will match the caps to each card. Using plastic bottle caps is largely used now for fun, hands-on games.

A video as a summary of all you can do with the small cards.

These are some versatile cards for playing several games.

Use it as a file folder game to work on the one-to -one correspondence.

Take a look:

Just had to try this activity with an egg holder. I saw it on social media. I used the cards from the file folder game. I glued the balloon cards onto a craft stick. I cut a slit on the egg holder to introduce the puppet. I cut the number words from the other cards and glued them randomly. I wrote the numeral with a sharpie. This depends on your students if you want to write the number or not. Start matching!

This is how I assembled the activity:

And using the letters provided in the resource, students can write the numbers words as part of their counting literacy.

You can’t miss the set of worksheets to practice number sense as they match the set of balloons to the corresponding number.

Include this activity to develop numerical literacy in your students.Make a poster using the material gluing the numbers in a sequence. Have the students say each number as they glue the sequence.

I used the Ballon Victory font from Creative Fabrica. There is a link on the side bar as I am an affiliate.
