These printable transportation small cards are perfect for literacy centers, speaking practice, movement games, vocabulary review, sorting activities, and hands-on learning for preschool and kindergarten English learners.
Transportation Vocabulary Small Cards for ESL Students
They
are a great aid for language development. Just the same flashcards but a smaller
size for working with small groups or for online learning.
Transportation Sequencing Activity
Give the students the big flashcards to create the sequence that you had made beforehand using the small cards. Make groups of four students. At your signal, students make a line standing with their flashcards in hand. The first group to make it says: STOP! And show the stop sign assigned to their group.
Teacher: There is a school bus, a car, a boat and a helicopter.
Transportation Movement and Speaking Game
Use
your set of small cards face down to call on the transportation vehicles. Place
the flashcards in random order on the floor. I placed mine onto plastic plates.
Students stand in line and turn over a small card vehicle and find it on the
floor and stand next to it. Students will go one by one doing it. When all the
students are at their spot they will name the vehicle next to them at your
signal.
Student: There is a green car!
Sort Transportation by Land, Air, and Water
Either use the air, water, land cutouts or the flashcards as in my example.
Have the students sort the vehicles to where they belong.
Have the students say similar sentences:
Teacher: Let's go on the helicopter.
Counting Activities with Transportation Vocabulary
Model the
phrases for your students to count 1 to 10.
Teacher: One ship!
Students: Two
airplanes!
Teacher: There are three cars!
Students: There are four trucks!
You
can make a strip of cards by gluing a long ribbon to hold all the cards. Hand
it in to a group of students and they can review the vocabulary using the stop
craft stick puppet.
Students can name each transportation item. You can also ask questions: Can you ride a motorcycle?
Student: No, I can't.
