Community Helpers or Jobs small cards. They are in the category of effective, flexible, visual and tactile learning materials for your kid's lessons or workshop. Ask students even in their mother tongue what do these community helpers do and if they know any.
Students can recognize and name the facial features of the community helpers as they name each one. You can also name the body parts.Make
small pointers out of a craft stick and a pompom or a sticker.
First, ask the question: Who's this?
Students: the firefighter!
Have the students point to the
parts of the face as you name and they repeat the word.
You can do the same thing with
the clothes.
Teacher: This is the doctor. What is this?
Students: It's a coat.
Teacher: What color is the coat?
Students: white.
Teacher: What is she wearing?
Students: She is wearing blue pants and a blue hirt.
· I
saw this idea and had to give it a try. I placed all the small cards on the
table and using a flashlight,
pointed to each card for the students to name the community helper.
Teacher: Who's he?
Student: He's the farmer.
Discuss with your students what these community helpers do and what they work with. Sort the cards into community helpers, town buildings, vehicles, hats and things. This can also be done using the big flashcards.
Show individual small cards tools and have the stduents guess who they belong to.
Point to different community helpers and have the students identify them. Match the
community helpers small cards to their cutouts that I taped an opened clip behind.
· Make community helpers stick puppets to use at the mini theater
for many fun activities.
Ask questions:
Teacher: Where is the
pilot?
Students: at the
airport!
