Park or playground unit vocabulary craft. By doing crafts, students are communicating in the target language with you and their classmates. I grabbed a part of a pizza box and glued craft paper around the box. Students could color each playground object and glue onto toilet paper rolls cut in half. Students can place their objects as they wish and have a show and tell activity later.

Park Unit Rewards come in handy when your students are struggling within the lesson. You should print these onto card or stiff paper. Show them the reward that is a pass to go to the playground if there is one in school or send home for the parents to take them and explain why you are giving the reward.

Teacher: Tomas, you participated by speaking English in class and here is your pass to go to the playground.

Playground Unit Worksheets for kindergarten learners are still an important English teaching material for active learning.

It’s important that students have their own set of flashcards either to take home or to play in class. This activity is with cups that I attached the card with a binder clip and had the students sort the cutouts. Encourage students to collaborate with one another as a teamwork doing this activity.

Playground Unit Worksheets

I love to extend the worksheets. The listen and color worksheets are fun. There is the boy and the girl.

Teacher: Find the slide! Color the slide red.

Have the students say the color of the other drawings in the worksheet.

At the end, either you or the students can cut up the worksheet and create a puzzle that another student can put together.

Worksheets are for individual work in class or to send home if your school requires homework. It’s easy for the parents to help complete with their children and review the adjectives big and small.

Worksheets can be used for assessment.

Park Unit Worksheets can be used to review concepts from previous lessons. In this case, numbers and shape. Students should be able to identify the shapes and the numbers in a picture of a park scene. They should be able to follow directions to find the numbers and shapes.
Teacher: Find Number 1. Color it yellow.

Review the topic of the unit  with the cutouts and the pocket chart. I have a small pocket chart, but you can place these between two or more pocket charts mats and play fly swatter. Students can say a phrase every time they swat a cutout: Let's slide on the slide!

I added the words to play match to the playground objects. Matching helps with concentration, making them feel good about the vocabulary words they can identify.Aural recognition of the words is crucial to vocabulary retention.

Park Unit Resource Kindergarten English Language Learners

Park Unit Small cards will work great for the little hands as they hold them to play the games that you set for them. Kids will retain the new playground vocabulary better as they use the cards.

Review can/can't to express ability. Can he walk in the park?

Ask questions with present continuous: Who is walking?
                                                         Students: the boy!

Introduce functional language with sentences using Let's:
Let's go to the swings!

esl materials

Use the small cards to have the students identify the playground equipment.Write the vocabulary playground words onto the board or a big cardboard and have the students find the word to place the small card on.

I saw a similar idea on Pinterest as to make a T-shirt to display cards. I gave it a try. I got an old black T-shirt, even though, I think that a green shirt would work better. I glued the cards onto felt, added Velcro onto each felt piece and onto the T-shirt.

Point to each card and ask questions.
Teacher: What is this?
Students: It’s a jungle gym!
Teacher: What color is it?
Students: It’s blue and green.

Students can also draw things that are at the park, such as trees, balls and more.

Some teachers are in dual language classroom and need Flashcards in Spanish which is my native language. There are many other words for naming the parts of the park. I used these common ones, but I can make the flashcards with the specific word in your native Spanish.

A nice comment from a teacher:
There is more to this park-playground resource on the next blog post. The same flashcards but in a smaller size for online teaching or small group instruction.   https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2021/10/park-unit-small-cards-to-teach.html
