Park Unit Resource Kindergarten English Language Learners

These Playground Small Cards are part of a complete Park & Playground Unit for Kindergarten English Language Learners, designed to take students from vocabulary recognition to active use.

The small cards allow students to practice, interact, and play with the language. Because of their size, they are perfect for  small group activities, learning centers, pair work and hands-on games.

Park Unit Small cards will work great for the little hands as they hold them to play the games that you set for them. Kids will retain the new playground vocabulary better as they use the cards.

Review can/can't to express ability with the small cards.

Teacher: Can he swing in the swings?
Students: Yes, he can.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS

Use the cards to ask questions in the present continuous:

Teacher: Who is hopping?
Students: The boy!

This encourages students to observe, think, and respond, instead of just repeating.

Interactive T-SHIRT activity

I saw a similar idea on Pinterest as to make a T-shirt to display cards. I gave it a try. I got an old black T-shirt, even though, I think that a green shirt would work better. I glued the cards onto felt, added Velcro onto each felt piece and onto the T-shirt.This turns the teacher (or a student) into a moving learning tool.

Point to each card and ask questions.
Teacher: What is this?
Students: It’s a jungle gym!
Teacher: What color is it?
Students: It’s blue and green.
