These Insects Small Cards for Kindergarten ESL are part of a complete insects unit, designed to help students move from recognizing vocabulary to actively using it through games and interaction.  Activities like matching, dice games, and speaking tasks help students reinforce vocabulary while staying engaged and motivated.

Laminate the downloadable small cards and have them organized in a ziplock bag. Use the cards to build language between your students with fun activities.

Insects activity Roll the dice

Place 12 small cards on the table. Add a masking tape with a number on each one. Hand in the dice to the students. They have to roll the dice and identify the insect on each card. There is a blank card which could be the roll again turn. If the student says it correctly, he/she can take the card, if not, they leave on the table. The winner is the one with most cards.

Teacher: What's number 6?
Students: It's a butterfly!

Insects Board Game

Make a big game board using any set of small cards, it can be done on the floor or on a table by laying the cards in any kind of pattern that you want. I made an example using the numbers cards. The makers can be anything, I used mini erasers. Students take turns rolling the dice and naming the card they land on.Ask:
Teacher: What number is this bee?
Student: Number one!

Place the small cards on a table with a fun foam insect or toy insect.  Each student can get the insect if they can name what’s on the card. Here is my example. Students had to say the phrase: a yellow butterfly.

Teacher: Is it a blue butterfly?
Student: No, it isn't.
