TEACHING ENGLISH

Small cards for the fruit and vegetables unit.

All the big flashcards are made smaller so they can be used for online teaching.  Hand in a small card to a student and ask questions:
Teacher: What do you have?
Student: I have a potato.

A game to prepare to do in class, either with the  small cards or the vocabulary worksheets. Prepare a small box . Punch a hole and add yarn to the small cards. Put them inside the box and have your students come up and pull the yarn and see what card they got and say what it is: It's a carrot!

Use the small cards for counting. Make pointers and have the students count: one, two, three, four, five tomatoes!

Fruit and Vegetables CUTOUTS to reinforce the new language.

There are many cutouts to choose from for many activities.
Make several copies of the cutouts and place them on the board in different quantities.
Teacher: What are these ?
Students: These are Onions!
Teacher: How many onions are there?
Students: one, two, three, four!
Teacher: four onions!  (write number 4 next to the onions)
Repeat with all the other cutouts.
Also play by saying the number and the students say the fruit or vegetable.
Teacher: five!
Students: potatoes!

Use the baskets to sort the fruit and vegetables. You can print them onto colored construction paper. Glue them onto cereal box or just use making tape and paste onto the board. After the baskets are settled, have the students grab a cutout and place it according to the color.

Teacher: What is this?
Student: This is an orange!
Teacher: What color is the orange ?
Student: orange!
Teacher: Put the orange in the basket.

Play a game:

Hand in all the cutouts to the students. Say a color and the students holding either a fruit or vegetable of that color step forward and say the name of it. If they are able they can make a phrase such as : a red apple.

Use the baskets to sort into fruit and vegetables. You can print the cutouts in the black and white version and have the students color them. Still, go on and sort into fruit and vegetables.

Use the baskets to sort into big and small all the fruit and vegetables .Students can say sentences: I see a big onion! (placing the onion in the BIG basket cutout) I see a small pear! (placing the pear in the small basket cutout)

big and small using the cutouts

I made another feed me box using a recycled cereal box. I covered it using a blue construction paper. Glued the grandma and opened the mouth space. Ask students to identify the person. Have them feed her saying a sentence.  Grandma eats bananas! If you use it online, have students dictate what Grandma will eat.

Print the pattern cards for the fruit and vegetables unit and use the cutouts for this activity that have your students speaking as they recreate the sequence.
