Counting 1 to 10 with a Snowman and Snowflakes resource is especially useful for (ELLs) teachers because it combines visual, seasonal, and hands-on learning.

Use the flashcards to integrate counting 1 to 10 with vocabulary such as "snowman," "snowflake.  Students associate the snowman numbers with visuals and actions (like tracing and writing numbers)

Teachers can easily use for differentiation—using it for simple counting the snowflakes cutouts for beginners, or for sentence-building ("There are five snowflakes") for more advanced ELLs.

Drilling the small cards can be fun. Hand in the snowmen heroes mat and 6 bottle caps to each student. Place the small cards facedown in random order. Learners draw a flash card and say the number. If it is correct, they get a bottle cap to place on the mat. The learners that have the six bottle caps wins.

There are ELLs who benefit from learning by doing. There are worksheets for coloring, matching and more of these multi-sensory activities.

Students will use the snowmen with numbers as a number board, and then cut and paste the matching number words onto each snowman. Reinforce number recognition as you give directions: Number four is pink!

By carefully counting each snowflake, students learn to match one object to one number. This worksheet combines visuals, numbers, and written language.

Matching card game. Students will match three types of cards:

snowman cards with a numeral, number word card, card with snowflakes to count. The goal is to find and match all three representations of each number from 1 to 10. This helps reinforce number recognition, reading number words, and counting quantities.

Print as many board games as you need, this is advantage when you have bigger groups.

Players see and say numbers 1–10 as they move around the game board, helping build automatic recognition. Play in pairs or small groups. When landing on a number, players must say the number word.
