This resource is included in the face Unit-Holistic English Series #6. LINK:https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Face-Unit-for-Kindergarten-Holistic-English-Series-6-6057570

Introduce Thanksgiving to your ELLs as a way to learn about American culture and traditions. Thought to combining Thanksgiving with the face unit to help students review the vocabulary.

Link the parts of the face with Thanksgiving characters using the flashcards.

Use the flashcards to help the students identify the parts of the face.

Make your pointer using the turkey provided. Plan activities that describe Thanksgiving characters' faces (e.g., eyes, nose, mouth). Encourage ELLs to point to the parts of the face.

Teacher: What are these?

Students: the eyes!

Repeat the vocabulary related to Thanksgiving asking more questions: What color is her hair?

Students: black!

Just like this!

Have the students draw the facial features on the flashcards. Place each one in a clear plastic sheet and use magnetic board marker and have the stduents listen and draw: Draw the nose!

Take a look!

Use the small cards to make the lesson Interactive and Fun. Cut the cards vertically and have the stduents putting the characters together and naming them once they are done.

Print the Face unit worksheets to practice the new words on the pilgrims or Native Americans. Students can be creative and express themselves as they draw the parts of the face and then decorate the headband on the Native Americans. They can also do a show and tell activity.

Cut and paste the parts of the face provided to actively connect the images.

Each student’s worksheet will be unique, as they cut and paste the facial parts from magazines on each Thanksgiving characters.
