Town unit printable coloring book. Students enjoy reading the book they have put together to their parents as they take it home. As a Kindergarten Teacher you can enlarge each page and make a big book. Have your own book ready to show the students the title, do a read aloud and then invite your class to read along with you using their own book. Have the students make a self- picture puppets to read each sentence. This will be a good practice for Where are you?
Teacher: Where are you?
Student: I am at the supermarket.

Take a look at the book!

Town Unit Craft. It is basically working with a stencil. Print the template onto cardboard. Cut out the shape of the store, the door, the window. Have the students create their own store. There is a space for writing the name of the store. They will color the store how they wish and draw the selling items on the window space. After each store is ready use a toilet paper half and cut two slits to place each store and create the class’ town. Students will then name the town building.

This is how I created the Town building with another template that I had.

Town Unit Worksheets: fun and practical activities to practice the town unit vocabulary and grammar structures.

Worksheets that can be transformed into small flashcards for the students to help reinforce the new vocabulary. A simple activity is to say a location sequence and the students place them in that order on their desk. Students can take turns saying the sequence.

Teacher: hospital, fire station, school, post office.

·       Children participate along the worksheet as they review the shapes. Have the students find and point out all the shapes they can see on the post office: square, triangle, circle, rectangle.  Give direction for coloring each shape or students can indicate the color.

Teacher: Find the triangle! Color it blue.

·       Students use their logic to find a solution to each problem on the worksheet. Students will expand the concept of left and right taught on the body unit, such as right hand and left hand. This will be left and right on giving directions. I used an egg holder to separate the left and right after making puppets with the pictures.

Teacher: The bank is on the left.

Then, say where each family member is.
Teacher: Brother is at the restaurant. (students glue him there)
Use the road clip art and make a poster.

Plan challenging activities to practise the language.

Town Unit Small cards. Easy to use as you choose which cards you want to work with. They are small to use with small groups to drill the new vocabulary by repetition or to send home to parents for extra practice. Customize the activities with the small cards to suit your class. Use them to elicit the identification and description of locations.

Town Unit Small cards.

Use the small cards for individual writing practice. Use magnetic letters or grab those from the dollar tree. Ask questions:
What's this?
Students: It's the shop.

·       I used small numbers to do a listening activity. Place the small cards on a table or board. Say where each number goes.

Teacher: The fire station is number one!

Then, have the students put the locations in number order on the board.
Ask questions:
Teacher: Where is the hospital?
Students: It's next to supermarket.

Teacher: Where is the school?
Students: It's between the shop and the airport.

Take a look!

Print them double and there is a memory game.
Students: There is a park and a post office.

Use the small cards in this game to review basic questions.
Teacher: What’s this ?
Students: It’s the post office.
Teacher: What color is the post office?
Students: It’s blue!

·      Matching words to the corresponding picture.  Cut the words out of each card and make a matching game. This activity helps with word recognition and reinforces the connection between spoken words and their written forms.
