Let’s jump right
into the small cards activities for the pets unit to teach Kindergarten ELL. They are small for online teaching or small
group instruction. There are all the flashcards but smaller. Great to have your students practice key vocabulary. It is a support for your students to learn the new words. Find great ideas!
Ask questions: What do you see?Students: I see a dog!
Place transparent contact paper or use the clear
plastic sheet to cover each small card. Students can write over the word (tracing) or copy the word and
then erase it. Students can name the pets.
Students: This is a brown mouse.
Connect new and prior knowledge such as numbers and pets. Use
the small cards to do a listening activity as putting the cards in order.
Students will place the cards in order on a carton egg holder as they hear to what
you say.
Teacher: snake, snake, mouse, hamster.
Use a book ring to put the cards together to show them easily for online teaching. Use this for reviewing for a test or to present the new vocabulary.
Ask them about their favorite pet.
Teacher: What pet do you like?
Student: cat.
