For the little ones I love to create new and fun things for Speaking. The feed me boxes are so great for that. They all want to participate. You just need a cutout to place onto a box. Also, you need the cutouts to feed. It can be clip art cutouts, magazine cutouts, worksheets cutouts or anything that you might think of.
It
can be obviously used in the classroom but you must be wondering how can I pull
that out online. Well, make a small one and have the students dictate which
word should be put into the feed me box character.
Here are some of my activities.
1. Make a feed me box out of a cereal box. I printed this clip art that I included in the Seasons theme. It fitted perfectly. I opened the mouth hole with an x-acto knife and scissors. The worksheets that the students had to work with were cut into cards and inserted into the mouth. Teacher: Feed the butterfly to the Old Lady!
You can check this blog post here: https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2019/05/seasons-unit-worksheets-for-preschool.html
I also used a cereal box for the farm animals. Here is the blog post link: https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2016/10/farm-animals-theme-for-preschool-ell.html
I made worksheets that are turned into small cards. Students can feed the monster as they say a sentence. Students: Eat the orange!
This day I didn’t have a box ready for the spider, so I had this lid of a box and used it. The activity was what do insects eat ? In this case, spiders eat insects, flies, mosquitoes and cockroaches. Feed the spider as you ask Do spiders eat snails? The students would answer NO! so, you won’t feed it. Then, ask Do spiders eat butterflies? Students will agree and you will feed the spider. Here is the blog post link: https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2016/12/insects-worksheets-and-more-for.html
I made feed me boxes out of small boxes for smaller characters. Here is for feeding the Zoo Animals. The same thing as above, What does the giraffe eat? The giraffe eats leaves.
Make feed me boxes out of toilet paper
tubes. Just glue a small cutout onto the front of each tube, cut a small slit
on the mouth of each pet. Have the students feed each pet that the given animal
can eat. They can say sentences such as: Rabbit eat carrots!
Feed me plates. For
making these you need 3 paper plates. Glue the like and don’t cutout onto each
plate. Cut one plate in half and glue the mouth half of the cutout onto each
one. Then, glue this part onto the plate. Use the plates for sentences such as:
I like potatoes! I donn’t like carrots! Students can say sentences for their
own food likes. Save the plates for all
the food units. Here is the link to the blog post. https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2016/02/vegetables-activities.html
I made another feed me box using a recycled mashed potato box from the kitchen. I glued a white paper onto the front and then glued the mom cutout and cut a slit on the mouth. Then, have the students feed the family members as they speak.
For older kids make the same fun feed
me boxes but for feeding words they can read. Here is the link to the blog

I will keep making more feed me boxes for speaking activities. Please follow me for more! Add your email to the follow by email box on the column on the right.
