Face Theme for Teaching Kindergarten ELL

Face Unit ideas

Printable Book: I made MY FACE book in class. Got the template at http://www.dltk-teach.com/, but used only the face words. I also made a bigger book for the class.

Pompoms: I got the template at: http://www.makinglearningfun.com/.
 Portrait: Here are some ideas:
a. Have students bring in a picture and paste on the frame, some books have the frame, but if not, create one and have students decorate it. Students can show the class their facial features on the picture.

Using already made face cut-outs, have students create a face.

Clown Face: I had this clown made of fun foam, added some Velcro pieces to play games.
Got the template at: http://www.kizclub.com/.

Paper plate Puppet Face: I made mine using paper plate, yarn, wiggly eyes and a pompom.

Cooking: I made mine using grapes cut in half for the eyes, an olive for the nose and raisins for the mouth.

Sticker Patterns: have students create their own patterns using these stickers.
Graphing: You can graph eyes, and hair.

Jack-in-the-box
This activity is from the book: I CAN (Richmond Publishing). Show students how to push the stick up so the face appears like the Jack-in-the-box.

Cutout pictures of face from magazines and mount them onto cardboard and cut them into halves, making 1 face half per child in the class. Distribute one half to each child. Have students walk around  the classroom as you signal them to GO! Looking for the classmate who has the the other half of their face and stand together holding their complete face picture. You can make it a competition to see who finds the partner faster.

These crafts encourage conversation, vocabulary building, and sentence formation, providing natural opportunities for language practice. Check it out: https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2017/09/letters-arts-and-crafts-collection.html

Math: Numbers 1 to 10

Numbers 1 to 10
1. Here´s the link to a grid game I made:

Print and paste on a colored file folder. You will need dice and mini erasers. These games are good for teaching one to one correspondence. The goal is to be the first one to have all the pictures on the grid covered. Players roll the dice( I bought these cute containers), count the number of dots on the dice and cover that number of monsters on the board using the mini erasers. The monsters have to be covered from left to right, top to bottom.

2. Plate numbers: When teaching the TOY UNIT, I made these plates, got the template at(http://www.childcareland.com/), and bought some toys. Each student places on each plate the number of toys as indicated.

3. Numbers and erasers. Use number outlines. First ,I printed the numbers onto construction paper, cut them out and paste on white cardboard. Have students place mini erasers on each number.

4. Number clothesline. Get old socks from your kids and write a number from 1 to 10 on each sock using textile paint. Then have students hang up the socks in numerical order.

5.  Trace the number gluing yarn.

6. Using some chalk for games!

Color Theme for Teaching Kindergarten EFL

1.Bean Bags: I made these jelly bean shape bean bags for teaching colors.Get some boxes and draw a colored splotch on the front, I used these cut outs that came with the book (Sprinkles 1-Richmond Publishing) . You can also give each child a color beanbag and then give them instructions to follow such as: "Touch your eyes", "Put the beanbag on your head" ,etc.

2. Cheerleader Pompoms: I bought these pompoms made of tissue paper. They´re great for playing games, such as: show me blue, put the pompoms on your head, put the pompoms to your left and so on.Play some music and have them sing color songs that usually come with the book series you are working with.

3. Crayon sorting :
Use colored plates and crayons.

4. Button sort : I got these plastic cups and glue a colored buttons on each one. I bought a dozen of buttons of different colors and had the children sort the buttons.
Another idea is to use paint cups for sorting the buttons.

5.  Wooden beads: Use the same paint cups to sort wooden beads. The children sort the beads by placing them inside the matching colored paint cup.I sell the cups and wooden beads. Let me know if you want them.

6. Color patterns : I printed these color cards from the web and made a pattern, but I also made one using balls printed on constrcution paper.

7. M&M:
Use these candies for lots of math activities, such as graphing, and making more patterns.

 8. Pompoms: I glued a pompom on used french fries containers from Burger King. Have students sort the colored pompoms.

Check the blog post for the Letters Arts and Crafts Collection.Cutting, coloring, and pasting help strengthen hand muscles, improving pre-writing skills.
