Emotions Theme Worksheets for Kindergarten ESL

 This is the seventh theme from the series of 30 units for the Preschool-Kindergarten English Language Learners. Here are some teaching tips for the practice part of the lesson plan using the worksheets. Set 1 of Worksheets. Listen and color! Cut through the lines and then you have small cards for the students to play games. 

Grab three lunch bags and glue a small card on each one. Have the students sort their worksheets into happy, sad and angry.

         Listen, trace and color pages. The emotions unit is great for review the parts of the face.  When the worksheets are done, students can sort the images using a pocket chart or simply do it on the table. 

From a shape unit worksheet to puppets. Two worksheets to review shapes. Students color as you dictate. Students will practice the colors.
Teacher: Color the square yellow. Color the circle blue. Color the triangle red. 

 I did the white wax crayon technique. Students trace the word using a white wax crayon. Then, use a marker to color the shape and the word appears like magic. 

Dictate the color of the emotions on the faces. Teacher: It’s an angry face. It’s yellow. The students cut all the shapes and glue them onto a craft stick so each puppet has two faces. Name a shape or an emotion and have the students show that puppet to you. Teacher: Show me the blue circle! Show me the sad face.

From a worksheet to sorting. This unit goes for a lot of sorting. I used a pocket chart but if you don’t have one it can be done on the table.

Cut and paste emotion worksheet. Review the numbers as you dictate the color of each number.

Teacher: Color number one yellow.
Then dictate the hair color of each child.
Teacher: the girl is angry. Her hair is red.
Students cut all the children cards. They glue them next to the number that you dictate.
Teacher: The angry girl is next to the yellow number one.

A worksheet can be a puzzle later.

Review the shapes with emotions. Review the shapes as you dictate the color of each one.
Teacher: Color the circle red.
Then dictate the emotion of each shape.
Teacher: The yellow triangle is angry.
Students cut all the shapes. They glue a craft stick behind each one and play show and tell.
Student: The green square is green.

It is a must to review previous units vocabulary and blend it into the new unit. This is a crayon face worksheets.
Teacher:  Color the happy crayon blue!!

Fun it is for your students to draw themselves and make a puppet to show off their current emotion.

Drawing mat. Place the printable inside a clear plastic sheet. Use whiteboard markers to trace the word and to draw the emotion.

Emotions Number Dictation. The numbers come in black and white. Color the body of each number and add an emotion to each one. I turned mine into puppets so it will be easier to show to the students.

The students will have their b&w template with the numbers.
Do this as a listening activity. Say how your number looks like.
Teacher: It’s number eight. It’s red. It’s sad.
Students will look for number eight and color it red. Then have them draw and color the mouth expression.

The students can place the numbers in the correct sequence.
